British Bikes

As a kid, My uncle Peter had an older Triumph that had been chopped. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen and it stirred my initial interest in riding. As I recall, the chopper began it's life as a Triumph Bonneville.

A good friend of mine, Bill Wisnewski, re-introduced me to the character some of these British bikes offer. He stumbled onto an opportunity to pick up a 1979 Bonneville. It had been locked away in a barn of an old friend for many years. I'm not sure Bill knew what he was getting into.

He brought the bike home and began the restoration process. As he got further into the project, he discovered he'd found a diamond in the rough. After a great deal of careful cleaning, Bill realized the paint was still in fine shape. Some of the chrome needed to be replaced but even some of that was able to be saved.  CONTINUED BELOW VIDEO

This bike was Bill's introduction to riding. He signed up for the rider training course, got his license, and has been riding since.

He's been kind enough to help us out in our booth at the Springfield Motorcycle Show each of the last 3 years. Each year he's brought his Bonnie with him. I swear, it draws more attention than any other bike at the show (without a beautiful woman in a skimpy outfit on it anyway).

It seems, most ever bike, particularly those over 35 or so, have a Triumph story. I've come to enjoy those stories be it about their first bike, nearly killing themselves on their brothers, or the time they stole their dad's when they were 15.

Well, this place is for you. I'd like you to share your British Bike photos, videos and stories with us. Send them in and we'll see what we can do to get them published. E-mail us at icreswell@coolbikerides.com.
