Berkshires In The Fall
What a way to spend a fall afternoon!

This fall, I discovered that an old friend of ours had taken up riding. Billy had picked up a 1979 Triumph and completely restored the bike. We'd been trying to hook up for several weeks but just couldn't get our schedules to pull together.

Well, we finally hooked up and took the opoprtunity to ride up into the berkshires. What a great day! We met at the Wendys by the Westfield exit on the Mass Pike. From there we headed down to the center of town and picked up Route 20. Though we had to put out feet down a little more than I'd like to get there, it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.

We road 20 on up into Huntington where we turned off to check out the Littleville Dam. The color was literally picture perfect! In fact, we were walking out on the dam to take some pictures and met a fellow out wlking his dog. He said we'd hit it just right, that the color had peaked that day. I guess he's a local who walks his dog each day so I suppose you could say he's an expert. Though the pictures are beautiful, they simply don't do the view justice.

From there, we continued on up 20 into Becket where we turned onto route 8 headed towards Otis. The weather started to cool off a little at this point but was still pretty nice for riding. We stopped at a small resturaunt in the center of Otis for lunch. This is a small family owned place that serves a great breakfast. One of the younger boys helped wait on us. I suspect he's a biker in the making! Be sure to make this a stop on this route every time you go!

After lunch, we continued to head down Route 8 towards Sandisfield. In Sandisfield, we turned East on Route 57. This takes you through some great little towns on some wonderful windy mountain roads. Be sure to stop at the Granville General Store in the center of Granville and pick up some of their homemade cheddar cheese. My favorite is the extra sharp! Just be sure not to blink or you'll miss it...

From there we headed back to our place in Southwick. What a great time with a great friend. We're looking forward to riding with Billy again next year! Check out the slide show below:
