Litchfield Loop
If you're interested in cruising around connecticut, be sure to check this one out!

Litchfield is a beautiful New England town nestled in the heart of North Western Connecticut. It was founded in 1721 so it, along with the surrounding region, is steeped in history. This is where this ride will begin and end. There are many great places to stop along the way including state parks, and some historical locations so make sure you set aside a day to explore!

The Image to the left was borrowed from the Licthfield town website http://www.litchfieldct.com. What a beautiful sunset!!! Make sure you check out their website to get a little more insight into the area.

A ride map will be posted soon so keep checking back!

Ride Description

This trip starts in the town of Litchfield, located in the scenic Northwest Hills of Connecticut. In the town you will find the Tapping Reeve House and Law School, where two of America’s vice presidents studied law (Burr and Calhoun) in addition to America’s first law school.

Start out going West on Rte. 202. There you will find the White Memorial Foundation woodlands and wetlands, a 4,000 acre sanctuary. There’s a museum, hiking and bird observation platforms if you wish to stop. You may choose to visit the Mount Tom State Park instead. Here you will find a lookout tower and picnic grounds.

When you turn north on Rte. 7 you will pass the Sloane-Stanley Museum and will eventually come to the Kent Falls State Park that boasts a fantastic cascading waterfall.

If you enjoy covered bridges, you will pass through Housatonic Meadows State Park and want to turn on to Rte. 128. You will pass through a red covered bridge that links West Cornwall and Sharon.

At Canaan Village you can stop for a bite to eat before heading east on highway 44. Shortly before you get to Norfolk you will pass Haystack Mountain State Park.

In Winsted turn right on to Rte. 8 and pass by the town of Torrington. Switch over to Rte. 202 for a quiet drive back into Litchfield to complete the Litchfield Loop.
