Popoli Run

Take a ride through some of the most beautiful riding country in the nation!

Do you love riding your motorcycle in the mountains on decent roads with nice sweeping curves? Is so, this is the ride for you!

Eric Riddle, owner of Popoli Power Sports in Westfield, MA, had contacted us and offered us an opportunity to guide a "Shop Ride" for them. This is the ride we've mapped out. The ride takes place on Saturday, July 19, 2008 so jump on that motorcycle and come join us. If you can't make it, give the ride a try yourself and let us know what you think! We've been on most of these roads but there are a few new ones for us as well. These are all roads recommended in the Harley Owners Group Touring Handbook so they should be great!

This ride runs roughly 100 miles and we'll begin it in downtown Westfield, MA but you can pick it up anywhere you'd like! Feel free to run variations of this as there's some great country to ride in up here.

- Begin this ride by picking up Route 20 in downtown Westfield heading west.

- Follow Route 20 into Russel and turn left on to Route 23.

- Follow Route 23 into Otis where it intersects with Route 8 and continue along on 23. There will be a brief period where these two routes run together.

- In Great Barrington, you will pick up Route 7 heading south towards Connecticut.

- Soon after crossing the border into Connecticut you will turn left on to Route 44 heading towards Winsted, CT.

- In Winsted you will be watching for Route 8 which will be a left. You will be following Route 8 towards MA.

- Follow Route 8 until you cross the border into MA. In New Boston, you will be turning Right and traveling east on Route 57.

Follow Route 57 to routes 10/202 in the center of Southwick. Turn left on 10/202 and follow this back into downtown Westfield where your ride began.

VARIATION

You may opt to by-pass route 8 in Winsted and decide to continue on until you pick up Route 20. Follow 20 towards Barkhampsted and you'll pass to the northern side of the lake.

PLACES TO STOP

There are several locations you may choose to visit along this ride including:

- Tolland State Forest in Otis, MA.

- The Farmington River Country Store in Otis, MA (take a left on to 8 when they intersect in Otis and the store will be on the left). This is one of our favorite breakfast spots.

- Colbrook River Lake in Colbrook, CT. You'll pass this on Route 8 shortly before hitting the MA border.

- The Granville Country Store in Granville, MA. The best cheese available in this neck of the woods!
