Anyhow, we arrived at Southampton Harley and it looked more like bike week than an anniversary party. One employee told us in the ten years he’d been working this event they had never had a turn out this large. There were bikes overflowing the dealerships parking lot, Rite Aid and several other establishments. It was obvious that the New England winter had been a long one and all those on two wheels couldn’t refuse the invitation sent by the weather God.
We were greeted by our friend Tim and about 500 of his best friends. We saw many familiar faces and had a great opportunity to speak to many of them while we waited in a quarter mile long line for some delicious barbeque food, including pigs straight off the roaster. While in line we got to listen to the music of the band Altimatum, which was fantastic, how can you not love a guy singing rock and roll in leather pants? They played music from the 80’s straight on through to today’s most popular rock. Good job guys!!
The showroom was hopping with activity. I had heard at one point that the dealership had sold three bikes one hour into the event. I personally think one of the reasons there was so much activity inside, is the blacktop was hot with the sun beating down on us and they had the AC cranked inside. The cool air gave everyone a great opportunity to look at some beautiful bikes and all the H-D gear a rider could desire.
The drawing for the Sportster started at 2:00 and I was very disappointed to find out that my name was not one of the 15 extra contestants for the bike, but then again we were there to support Bethany. We were very excited to later find out that she was in the final five, but unfortunately did not win the big prize.
All in all, the event was a lot of fun. The weather was beautiful, the people were all well behaved, the food was great as was the entertainment. It was great to hook up with friends old and new and be around the rumble that we all love to hear this time of year. Southampton Harley did a fine job with traffic and crowd control, our boys in blue were there to support that effort and I believe the event was enjoyed by all who were lucky enough to attend. I give the event two thumbs up, good job Southampton Harley!!
