Quabin Run 2008
We had a chance to take an awesome ride late this summer. We hooked up with Christine's sister Denise, her husband Jim, and his good friend Donnie and his wife Mary. We put on nearly 200 miles that day!
We all met in Westfield, MA and then headed on out to Springfield. We cruised up 291 to the 50's diner at the end of the highway in Chicopee. We stopped there for a bite to eat before heading out on the road. Well the service could've been better and the food a bit warmer... Fortunately their under new management these days!
From there, we stayed away from the major highways and stuck to some of the backroads like Route 9. We headed out to the Quabin Resevour and stopped at the spillway to take a break and a few pictures. We remounted the bikes and rode on up to the observation tower. There's about 1.2 million stairs to get to the top be what an amazing view!
Once we were done, we headed back out and worked our way to Route 2 and headed West. We stopped at the French Kings Bridge and took a few more pictures. This also offered an amazing view. One of these pictures made it to my myspace account and has solicited a comment requesting in on the next ride!
From there we followed 2 into Greenfield and continued on to Shelburn Falls and the Bridge of Flowers. This is neat little town with the afore mentioned bridge as well as the Glacial Pot Holes which are holes formed by glasiers during the ice age. From there we meandered our way back to Route 8A, 9, then 8 into Becket where we stopped at a new little tavern for our last break.
What a great ride! See the slideshow below:
