Southern Vermont Loop

This ride was recently submitted by a friend of the site Larry K.. Though I've not done this loop, I've been on many of these roads and they're darned nice.

Here's a nice ride with a little antique shopping mixed in.

It's 185 miles, starts and ends in Sunderland, MA, so your mileage may vary.

Start Sunderland, north to Greenfield on Rt. 91, then West on Rt. 2 for nine miles, and take the right turn onto Route 112.  North on Rt. 112, which turns into Rt. 100 at Jacksonville VT.  Continue to Route 9 just at the edge of Wilmington, VT.  At that intersection is a big flea market, with good parking, stop in and shop a while, refreshments are available.

Now take Rt. 9 left, into Wilmington, to the light, then turn right on Rt. 100.  Stay on Rt.
100 for about 53 miles (enjoy the Deerfield River valley), and you'll arrive at the intersection of Rt. 100 and Rt. 103, which is Main street in Ludlow.  Go left a mile or so, and turn into a strip mall on the right, just outside the entrance to Okemo.  Here you will find Java BaBa, a coffee and sandwich place, great for lunch, super sandwiches and great coffee and soft drinks.

Now get back on Main street (Rt. 103) head South (left) through town, and go about 15 miles south to Chester, a beautiful little town full of stone houses.  Follow 103 through town to the south end where you'll see the Stone House Antique shop.  This stop will take a while, it's a very large antique place!!

Now continue on Rt. 103 south a few miles and then stop at the Vermont Country Store, on the right.  Great place for all things Vermont, also great cheeses and large candy collection, as well as clothing and other stuff.

Continue on South on Rt. 103 into Bellows Falls, catch the Left turn onto Rt. 12.  Cross the river, and follow Rt. 12 South to Walpole, NH.  On the north end of Walpole you'll find the Laundromat, and next to it is the Walpole
Creamery, watch carefully for this one!  The greatest ice cream stop ever! Worth the ride just for their malted milk shakes!

CONTINUED TO THE RIGHT...

Now continue south on Rt.12 for a mile or so and you will come to a right turn onto Rt. 123, which will take you back across the river to Rt. 5 and follow it on back to Rt. 91.  Grab  Rt. 91 South, ride easy for about 50 miles and you're back to Sunderland.  If you're hungry for supper, try Bub's BBQ, right on Rt. 116.

It's a nice day ride, with shopping for your back seat rider, and beautiful VT. scenery, Deerfield River Valley, Mt. Snow and Okemo Ski areas,
along with twisting curvy roads, and a little easy super slab riding at the end of the trip.
